Greater Manchester Police Arrest Nine in Far-Right Group Investigation

2025-05-08T06:54:13.188Z

Greater Manchester Police have arrested nine individuals in connection with an alleged far-right gathering at a pub in Oldham, where the group is said to have celebrated Adolf Hitler's birthday. The arrests were made on suspicion of Section 18 Public Order Act offences, which pertain to the display of threatening, abusive, or insulting material intended to stir up racial hatred.

During raids across Rochdale, Bolton, Trafford, Stockport, and Southport, officers seized imitation firearms, weapons such as swords and a crossbow, along with Nazi memorabilia and materials. The operation also led to the deployment of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team in Bolton after a suspected grenade was found at a property, though it was later declared safe, with authorities confirming no ongoing risk to the public.

Assistant Chief Constable Steph Parker emphasized the importance of exploring all avenues to determine the extent of the criminal activities involved. While the investigation is in its early stages, police have reassured the public that there is no broader threat to community safety. The involvement of Counter Terrorism Policing North West has been noted, though the investigation remains under the leadership of Greater Manchester Police.

The presence of police in the community has been increased to assist with enquiries and provide reassurance to residents. Authorities are committed to ensuring public safety and addressing concerns related to the unsettling ideologies associated with the group under investigation. The police urge anyone with information to come forward as they continue their search of the addresses involved.
