Greencoat Renewables Expands European Footprint with JSE Listing

22-05-2025

Greencoat Renewables, an Irish-incorporated renewable energy infrastructure company, is set to make its mark on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) next month. This move signifies the company's strategic expansion beyond its primary listings in London and Dublin, aiming to tap into the South African market's potential. With a portfolio that spans across five European jurisdictions, Greencoat Renewables has established itself as a significant player in the renewable energy sector, boasting assets that contribute 1.5 GW to the energy grid.

The company's business model, focused on converting wind and solar irradiance into clean energy, has proven successful since its inception in 2017. Greencoat Renewables has grown from managing two onshore wind farms in Ireland to overseeing 40 renewable energy assets across Europe. This growth trajectory underscores the company's commitment to sustainable energy production and its ability to generate consistent returns for investors.

Listing on the JSE is expected to enhance Greencoat Renewables' liquidity and diversify its shareholder base. Ronan Murphy, the company's non-executive chairman, expressed enthusiasm about the listing, highlighting the attractive proposition it offers to South African investors. The secondary listing on the JSE does not involve the issuance of new shares, ensuring that the company's existing shareholders' interests remain unchanged while opening doors to new investment opportunities.

Despite facing challenges such as a 5.8% drop in revenue last year due to lower wind speeds across Europe, Greencoat Renewables remains optimistic about its future. The company's strategic asset management and reinvestment strategies are geared towards long-term capital growth. With its upcoming listing on the JSE, Greencoat Renewables is poised to strengthen its position in the global renewable energy market, offering investors a chance to be part of a sustainable and profitable venture.
