Imagine Communications to Acquire Pixel Power in Strategic Broadcast Technology Move

20-10-2025

Imagine Communications has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Pixel Power Limited from Rohde & Schwarz, marking a significant strategic alignment in the broadcast technology sector. The transaction, expected to close in 2025 pending customary approvals, will see Imagine absorb the Cambridge-based subsidiary as both companies pursue their shared vision for IP- and cloud-based broadcast and digital streaming markets.

The acquisition represents a strategic realignment for both organizations, enabling Imagine to expand its live production and playout offerings while allowing Rohde & Schwarz to concentrate on its core businesses in Test & Measurement, Technology Systems, and Networks & Cybersecurity. This move positions Imagine to offer broadcast customers what the company describes as "the most extensive portfolio of live production and playout solutions on the market."

Through the integration of Pixel Power's software-defined, deploy-anywhere platforms, Imagine aims to enhance its live production ecosystem and playout solutions. The combination of complementary technologies and engineering expertise is expected to provide broadcasters with deeper integration possibilities and a broader set of tools for workflow design. James Gilbert, deputy CEO of Pixel Power, noted that the alignment "opens up exciting new opportunities to scale our innovation" while ensuring customers benefit from more tailored solutions and improved support.

Pixel Power brings significant technical assets to the acquisition, including its PRISMON multiviewer known for advanced master control and cloud functionality. This technology will strengthen Imagine's ultra-low-latency SNP Multiviewer platform, creating what the companies describe as one of the industry's most comprehensive IP and IP-hybrid multiviewer portfolios. Imagine plans to maintain Pixel Power's Cambridge facility, combining engineering and customer support teams to ensure seamless continuity for existing customers using PRISMON, Gallium, and StreamMaster systems.
