Toddler Dies in Head-On Collision on Massachusetts Route 138

A nearly two-year-old girl died Saturday evening following a violent head-on collision on Route 138 in Taunton, Massachusetts. Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn confirmed the toddler's death Sunday morning after the crash occurred around 7:10 p.m. on Broadway, the local designation for Route 138.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene near 400 Broadway to find a white Chevy van and blue Toyota RAV4 SUV with heavy crash damage. According to the District Attorney's office, the RAV4 appeared to have crashed into the van in the northbound lane. The van was found centered in the northbound lane facing the correct direction of travel.

The RAV4 was driven by a 25-year-old woman who was transported to Rhode Island Hospital in stable condition. Her two young children were also in the vehicle - a five-year-old girl who was taken to an out-of-state trauma center and remains in stable condition, and the nearly two-year-old girl who was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at a local hospital.

Four adult men traveling in the van remained at the scene and showed no apparent injuries. Massachusetts State Police, the Bristol County District Attorney's office, and Taunton Police Department are conducting an active investigation into the crash. No charges have been announced and the investigation continues with no additional information being released at this time.
