Michigan State Police were alerted to the scene at approximately 3:15 p.m., where they found local officers administering urgent medical care to the critically injured worker.
According to preliminary investigations, the victim was working inside an excavated hole in the road when the accident happened. The operator of the excavator reportedly was unaware of the worker's presence in the hole, leading to the fatal encounter. The young worker was swiftly transported to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor but, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, succumbed to his injuries.
