A train collision with a car at a level crossing in Bentley, Suffolk, led to significant disruptions on the rail network between Colchester and Ipswich on Sunday afternoon. Greater Anglia, the rail operator, confirmed that all lines were blocked following the incident, which occurred at Station Road. Emergency services, including the East of England Ambulance Service and British Transport Police, were promptly dispatched to the scene.

Despite the severity of the collision, there were no injuries reported. A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service mentioned that one person was assessed at the scene but required no further medical attention. The British Transport Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, focusing on recovering the vehicle and ensuring such incidents are prevented in the future.

Greater Anglia announced the cancellation of train services running through the affected stations, with disruption expected until further notice. Rail replacement buses were arranged to operate between Ipswich and Colchester, including stops at Manningtree, to mitigate the inconvenience caused to passengers. The rail operator also noted that train engineers and Network Rail response teams were working diligently to assess the damage and restore services.

By late Sunday evening, National Rail confirmed that all lines had reopened, though some disruption was anticipated to continue until at least 10pm. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges and risks associated with level crossings, underscoring the importance of safety measures and public awareness to prevent similar occurrences. The swift response from emergency services and rail operators ensured that the impact on passengers and the individuals involved was minimized.
