Post Office's Franchise Model Strengthens with New Agreements in Humberside and Morecambe

29-05-2025

The Post Office has taken a significant step in its strategy to transition to a fully franchised network by announcing RF Retail as the new franchise operator for three of its branches in the Humberside area. This move is part of a broader initiative that saw the Post Office announce last month its intention to franchise all remaining 108 directly managed branches, aiming for completion by the autumn. The branches affected by this latest decision are located in Bransholme, Bridlington, and Grimsby, all of which will continue to operate from their current premises under the new management.

RF Retail, a company with a strong background in retail and Post Office operations, is set to bring its expertise to these branches. Headed by Richard Fleetwood, a third-generation postmaster with over two decades of experience, RF Retail currently manages six Post Office branches and six banking hubs. The company's retail outlets, known as Olive stores, pay homage to Fleetwood's grandmother, reflecting a deep family connection to the Post Office service. This partnership underscores the Post Office's commitment to maintaining a robust network through collaborations with experienced retail partners.

Meanwhile, in Morecambe, the Post Office has confirmed that its branch will remain in its current location under a new franchise agreement with ZCO Ltd. This decision alleviates previous concerns about potential closures or relocations, ensuring the community continues to have access to essential postal services. The Morecambe branch will not only retain its current service offerings but will also extend its opening hours on Tuesday mornings, enhancing convenience for customers. This change is expected to be implemented by September 2025, marking another milestone in the Post Office's franchising journey.

The Post Office's transition to a fully franchised network reflects its dedication to creating a sustainable future for postal services across the UK. By partnering with established retail operators like RF Retail and ZCO Ltd, the Post Office aims to preserve its presence in local communities while adapting to the evolving retail landscape. Customers can expect the same range of services and access arrangements, with the added benefit of potentially improved opening hours and service quality under the new franchise agreements.
